Captain's Program for Homeless Youth

Captain's Program for Homeless Youth

The CAPTAIN Street Outreach Team in Gloversville provides services for Fulton and Montgomery Counties. The team works with youth from the ages of 13-24. The services include a wide range of assistance, from providing food and hygiene items to referrals to other programs. The case manager can provide assistance in applying for social services, search for housing and employment opportunities as well as weekly drop in where a hot meal is provided to the youths by local volunteers. During our drop in, we can get anywhere from 5 to 10 youths that will be receiving this hot meal each week. This program is youth driven which means no youth is pressured into working with the case manager unless they want too. The program will typically have around 10 to 20 youths engaged in more intensive assistance at a time between the 2 counties. The First Congregational United Church of Christ has assisted CAPTAIN with allowing access to a permanent location that CAPTAIN rents each month. This is the location that Fulton and Montgomery team can meet face to face with their clients. The church also has a washer, dryer and shower that our clients can utilize when needed. The church and CAPTAIN work together by providing CAPTAIN van to assist with their pantry pickup and in exchange, the church provides food and snacks for our clients.
