Our Mission
What We Believe
The First Congregational United Church of Christ is a faith community that endeavors to practice the ministry of Christ by welcoming, accepting, and affirming all, regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. We enjoy each other’s presence in ways that engage us in a nurturing environment that includes worship, education, fellowship, outreach, social action, and peacemaking.
We respect and cherish diversity. We find that the description of our faith needs to be unlimited. We want each member to be free to define his/her own commitment to our church even if she/he cannot commit to a traditional Christian creed or doctrine. We see the gospel as an instrument to challenge, inspire, and perhaps reveal the Word as it relates to our lives, our community, and the world.
We are active in our commitment to peace and justice for all people. We explore the goals together, but support and are sensitive to the needs of one another.
Our congregation firmly believes that by serving the community outside our congregation we serve God. We especially like to serve underrepresented or marginalized communities. We have been good stewards of our building and its operations, including our finances.
